Principals Update

With one week to go until the October half-term, we have officially finished all of our ‘start of year’ activities to support our pupils and parents in settling into the academic year. A big thank you to Dr Sangar and the careers team for the KS4 Careers Fair on Tuesday night. We also held our first SSC (School Stakeholder Committee) meeting of the year on Tuesday evening. It was wonderful to introduce our newest senior leads Mrs K Patel, Mr A Giga and Mr G Khabra to our SSC and have the SSC hear their plans for the upcoming year.

Next week we look forward to celebrating Diwali. There will be primary parent workshops throughout the week, secondary curriculum lessons linked to Diwali themes and the week will culminate with our Festival Day on Friday 18th October. Students are encouraged to wear traditional dress on Friday 18th, where they will participate in Diwali activities throughout the day and enjoy a special festive meal. It will be regular school timings for the day.

Parents Survey

Thank you to the parents who have already completed the survey – we have already taken note of some of the feedback around communication processes needing to be improved. A full review of the survey will take place in the Autumn 2 term, with feedback provided to parents in the bulletin when we return.

The survey will be open until the half-term.

Navratri

I would like to say a very big thank you to our PTFA for their Navratri events. I had the pleasure of attending last Saturday night with our admin team and it was fantastic! If you haven’t yet got tickets, please read further below, as tickets are still available for tonight and tomorrow.

Contacting the School

Communications – Wherever possible please use the contact form on our website to get in touch. This is detailed on the website at /avantifields/contact-us/. The appropriate member of staff will pick up the message and get back to you as soon as possible.

Absence

To report an absence to the school, parents should contact us by 8:00am (primary) and 8.30am (secondary)

Email: [email protected]
Phone: 0116 326 6813 (Option 1 to leave a voicemail)

Please remember to state your child’s full name, tutor group and reason for absence. If your child is unwell, please could you give a brief description of the symptoms.

All education research highlights how crucial it is to a child’s academic progress and wellbeing they attend school , on time, all of the time. Therefore, a reminder that it is important that families organise events or holidays outside of school time to ensure that their child is at school as often as possible.

The school works closely with the Education Welfare Officer at LCC, and we do seek to ensure that any requests for authorised absence are dealt with on a case-by-case basis, in a sensitive manner. However, the school can never authorise a family holiday or a trip abroad to visit family members during term time.

This academic year, families will have two weeks at the October half-term, three weeks at Christmas and two weeks at Easter for extended family holidays. Please do ensure that if booking holidays, they fall within the holiday periods.
