In the summer and fall of 2021, UW-Madison鈥檚 UniverCity Alliance and the Village ofWaunakee collaborated on several projects surrounding Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).This report presents the findings of an audit of the Village of Waunakee鈥檚 municipal code forelements of DEI. Representatives from Waunakee described the Village鈥檚 DEI initiative as beinggenerally aimed at creating a Waunakee that is 鈥渨elcoming for all.鈥� Further, they emphasizedracial and economic justice as core goals of the Village鈥檚 DEI initiative. Accordingly, thoseprinciples underlie the suggestions contained in this report. The report specifically focuses onpublic and private land use within the municipal code. However, due to the intersectional natureof the issues relating to diversity, equity, and inclusion, it also addresses issues beyond explicitland use.
